The triadic ballet and the Bauhaus

“Architects, sculptors, painters, ... we must return to manual labor ... Let us establish, therefore, a new brotherhood of artisans, free from that arrogance that divides the social classes and that seeks to erect an insurmountable barrier between artisans and artists”. Walter Gropius

One of the wonders that emerged from the Bauhaus founded by Walter Gropius, which personally draws my attention powerfully perhaps because in a way it affects my area of work is this magnificent triadic ballet created by Oskar Schlemmer in 1922, professor of the Bauhaus, inspired in Russian constructivism. It reflected the essence of the time, a totally new vision. They created a new aesthetic where form and movement merged.

Its name comes from the fact that there are three dancers, three parts in the symphonic architectural composition, and dance, costumes and music merge. His performance of 1922 was kept on the bill for more than ten years.

Below is the video of the reconstruction of the triadic ballet made by Margarete Hastings in 1970. This version was assisted by Ludwig Grote and Xanti Schawinsky (students of Schlemmer at the Bauhaus) and by Tut Schlemmer, the widow of Oskar Schlemmer. The music is by Erich Ferstl.
